The Prettiest King Cake I’ve Ever Seen January 22, 2021
It’s MARDI GRAS Season!! I may live in my Mississippi, but you can’t take the Louisiana out of this girl. Literally one of my FAVORITE times of the year is Mardi Gras season. But only mostly because it means it’s time for king cakes!
I am obsessed with king cakes. But I mean, who in NOLA isn’t? I will get into my favorite in just a minute. First, I have to discuss this pink king cake I discovered this year. I saw this cake on Instagram and my heart had butterflies and I knew I HAD TO TRY IT! I wanted to try it so bad that I was going to have it shipped here. But because I have THE best daddy in the entire world, he got one for me while he was there for work and smuggled it over to Mississippi just for me!
So, where did this pretty pink king cake come from? It is handmade and exclsuive to Brennan’s restaurant in the French Quarter. Their iconic building is pink, so inspired by this they made the Pink Parade king cake. It is a strawberry cream cheese king cake that is made from strawberries straight from Ponchatoula (IYKYK). It literally has glitter on it. My dad said that only I could make him eat glitter. haha! So much truth to that. Anyways, here the excerpt from Brennan’s website describing the cake:
“A rosy-hued beauty inspired by the iconic deep-pink façade of Brennan’s, itself. 50 flats’ worth of luscious fruit from the strawberry fields of Johnsdale Farm in Ponchatoula, Louisiana last forever. Carefully preserved last season, the strawberry jam and whipped light-and-airy cream cheese get folded into the cake for a dreamy combination. The jam also tints the sugar icing that coats the cake beneath a light dusting of pink cocoa powder. A delicate drizzle-pattern of white icing atop it all is enlivened with splashes of sparkly sugar pebbles in pink and pearl.”
This cake was absolutely delicious. HOWEVER, nothing will ever compare to the king cake that has my heart – a Randazzo’s king cake. True statement, I have a rule that I will never eat a king cake that isn’t a Randazzo’s and I made an exception for this pink one. Nobody will ever try to change my mind, no matter how hard people in Mississippi try. Mississippi people just never had the best to compare to. PS. You can order a Randazzo’s king cake online here or make a road trip! My husband actually found on on the side of the road in Hattiesburg! The Original in the best ever. Worth. Every. Penny. Go ahead and get five of them. You can freeze them & will thank me later.
