The Most Easy, Delicious Treat To Bake For Valentine’s Day February 8, 2021
Holiday baking. Can someone please explain why it’s so satisfying? Something about making treats and desserts with in all the festive ways, just makes them extra sweet. I mean, I am a total sucker for heart shaped desserts. Okay, heart shaped anything really. ha!
The past Christmas, my husband gave me two pink silicone baking molds as two of my stocking stuffers. One was for regular hear shaped cupcakes/muffins and the second was for mini heart shaped fun. I have been so excited to use these, so this was my first chance!
Side note: I plan to use the mini one for a cocktail drink by making heart shaped ice. Eeek! How fun?
This Valentine’s day, I decided to make mini heart shaped cakes. I usually go for the cookie route like I did here, but mini cakes sounded too yummy. So, here’s what I did.
For starters, yes, I did cheat a little by using a box cake mix. But, let’s get real, they are easy and delicious. I used the Pillsbury white cake. White cake is like my favorite flavor of cake (well for boxed cakes that is), which is crazy since I always LOVED chocolate cake the most growing up. To make these more holiday festive, I added pink dye to my cake mix to make my little cakes pink. Looking back, I should have used more dye because when they came out the oven, they were the faintest shade of pink. You live and learn, right? I baked them per the directions of the box, but since my oven cooks so fast, I took them out approximately 7 minutes early. Because I always put too much batter in the pans, I shaved the tops off of them to make sure they were perfectly heart shaped.
Next, is the most fun part – time to decorate! I used pink heart sprinkles & pearl sprinkles that I found at Target. You can see what decorating tools I used here since I used the same sets. I used a mixture of two different tips! Decorating desserts is always so fun because you can be as creative as you want or as basic as you want. For me, it’s calming and makes me happy.
