Our Wedding Day July 1, 2019
Since today marks our TWO year wedding anniversary, I thought, “what better way to celebrate than to do a blog post commemorating it?”. For starters, this day was the best day of our lives. It was so sweet, so special, and so fun. BUT, we couldn’t have done it without all of the amazing vendors and people who put so much heart and work into making our day so amazing for us and for all of our guests.
Before I get into wedding details, I want to share a little bit of our story. My husband and I are high school sweethearts. For my 21st birthday, he had a whole surprise weekend planned in New Orleans. He had reservations at this very chic, swanky restaurant at the Ponchatrain Hotel. After dinner, we went upstairs to The Tin which is a rooftop bar at the hotel that looks over the city of New Orleans and the Superdome. There, on the balcony, he proposed to me. It was such a whirlwind moment, that neither one of us truly remember all that he said. Ha! Afterwards, both of our families showed up to celebrate (all the way from MS!) and we got beignets at Cafe Du Monde. We were dating for almost 7 years when we got married.
We got married at the Chapel at First Baptist Church of Jackson which was very quaint and intimate. The chapel has very old, large organ pipes that echoed during our ceremony and bells that rang so beautifully to start the ceremony.
We had the reception at The Railroad District in Jackson, MS. It was a revitalized building that has a very “New Orleans” style to it. We had THE BEST vendors ever, hands down. Meredith McCullough, with Stella & CO. helped us plan our wedding and there’s no one else I’d recommend. She also did our Rehearsal Dinner for my mother-in-law (which was AH-MAZING!) and is now planning my younger sister’s wedding as well. For food and flowers, we used Fresh Cut Catering & Floral and, again, they were the absolute best. Our guests still rave about the food today. One of the best parts, was the groom’s “cake”. My husband has always has always LOVED donuts, specifically Krispy Kreme donuts. So, instead of your traditional groom’s cake we had a donut bar! To go with it, I surprised him on our wedding day with a GLAZE fountain to dip your donuts – needless to say, this was a hit. Shout out (AGAIN) to Wendy Putt & Meredith for making this happen since neither of them had ever done that before. One thing we could NOT leave out, was a Second Line. I’m originally from Louisiana, so it was a tradition we HAD to do! We ordered custom handkerchiefs from Etsy with our wedding logo on it. My uncle (who sounds so much like Elvis) sang “Can’t Help Falling in Love” to us while we danced. BUT, one of THE most special moments of our reception was at the very end… While all of our guests went outside to prepare for our send-off, my husband and I had a “last dance” together, where we danced to a sweet song HE chose!
